WASHINGTON – On June 15th, over 1,000 guests attended The 2024 District Cup, the 7th annual Polo tournament on the National Mall. The tournament has become a premiere Washington D.C. sporting, social, and cultural event—attracting thousands of guests from around the world, including young professionals, Diplomats, Members of Congress, C-Suite executives, and more. This year, team Ūsked, comprising riders Nico Baca, Dario Sotomayor, Bob Parr, and Juan Sanchez, took home The District Cup.

The theme of this year's tournament was “Polo Passport,” allowing guests to enjoy culinary, cultural, and sporting experiences from different countries around the world. Guests used their “Polo Passport” to travel to cultural exhibitions hosted by different countries that offered culinary, cultural, and sporting experiences in the tented “Polo Pavilion”.

“The 2024 District Cup was an incredible event that allowed guests to experience the worldly roots of Polo, all while making a difference in our community.” said District Cup co-founders, Nico Baca and Dario Sotomayor. “Thank you to our players, sponsors, attendees, and the entire Washington DC community for their continued support and enthusiasm for the sport of Polo year after year. We are humbled and honored to continue the long-standing tradition of Polo on the National Mall. We look forward to having guests return the Mall for the 2025 District Cup!”

Over the last six years, The District Cup has donated over $200,000 to local charities and generated millions of dollars for local business partners in the hospitality, catering, production, and transportation industries—including $1.5 million in revenue for minority and women-owned businesses.

At the heart of this event is The District Cup Foundation, the event's 501c3 non-profit organization committed to supporting a variety of philanthropic causes. This year, The District Cup partnered with The Hole In The Wall Gang (THITWG), an organization committed to helping children with serious illnesses and their family members. THITWG is opening a Maryland location to support children in the greater DMV area in 2025.

About The District Cup: The game of Polo has been played on the National Mall since the early 1900s. Building off of this 100+ year tradition, The District Cup (TDC) is an organization that hosts an annual charity Polo tournament on the National Mall to raise money to support underserved youth from the greater Washington DC area.
